Concept - "Image"
Just as one could love or like another, one can love or like oneself. Such is the nature of human connections; it can be a connection between one and oneself. Richard Scent in his book ‘The Fall Of Public Man’ says that there is no one called a ‘public man’ anymore. Instead, there is a narcistic individual.
In the story of narcissism, the prince Narcissus, sees his own image in a well and develops a desire for himself. Finally, he falls into the well and dies.
Capitalism has removed all obstacles, and given us all the opportunities to enjoy in our own ‘image’. Here, especially social media has given us a great freedom.
In this contemporary-ness, people are afraid of real connections. They have become distanced from human connections. Instead, people are dealing with their mobile screen or the computer screen. They think of this virtual interaction as a real interaction. I have tried to bring this virtual interaction as an interactive artwork into the gallery space.
